The Sinking of the ‘Van Der Wijck’
For this film, (relating an account of the actual sinking of a Dutch steam ship in 1936), we built a full sized section of the ship’s deck, 25m long and 12m wide (80′ x 40′), on a harbour side in North Jakarta, it could be tilted in to the sea using a hydraulic system.
We also built a 6m (20′) miniature of the complete steamer which could be capsized.
Adam researched and made a 3D model of the ship which was used to build the physical miniature and also as the basis for the 3D animation in the film.
The film won the category “Best Visual Effects” at the FFI awards 2014.
