Blackhat
For Michael Manns’ cyber thriller ‘Blackhat’, among the other special effects, we needed a car to be shot with an RPG. The location was Honk Kong, but the government there wouldn’t allow the production to stage the effect in the street.
We blew up the cars in Indonesia, using a combination of high explosive and pyrotechnic effects, then they were composited into the Hong Kong shot later.
For the shoot in Jakarta, the finale of the film, a shoot-out and stabbing took place in the middle of a parade of torch bearers. We provided 1,000 flaming torches and the crew to keep them all burning all night – as well as the squibs and other requirements.
We also covered parts of the shoot in Kuala Lumpur, driving several trucks over cliffs to test that sequence!
